African Youth Taking Global Climate Action

African youth play a significant role in the fight against the global climate crisis. The Ichikowitz Family Foundation conducted 4,500 in-person interviews across 15 countries in Africa highlighting the climate crisis concerns of 18-24-year-olds. The study reveals that two-thirds of Africa’s youth advocate for more decisive policy measures to address climate change or actively take steps to decrease their carbon footprint. Additionally, young Africans are more likely to participate in climate change protests and rallies than older generations.
Young generations demonstrated increased engagement as they actively raise awareness and advocate for climate action in their communities and beyond. What specific actions are African youth taking to combat the global climate change crisis? How can other regions learn from the example of African youth in participating in climate activism and raising awareness? This session explores the steps taken by African youth to address the effects of climate change in order to ensure a healthy, thriving future for themselves and the continent.
