African Diaspora Network is committed to supporting individuals on the ground who are working with youth, families, and communities to increase opportunity and quality of life.
The Start Your Social Enterprise initiative helps accelerate the entrepreneurial skills of Catholic Sisters who are connected to underserved communities facing poverty and other challenges across the Continent. Religious and faith-based institutions have been pivotal to poverty alleviation efforts in Africa, and these Sisters are often the first point of contact for community members in need of support.
The Sisters dedicate a lifetime’s work to this and are transforming their charity models into sustainable social enterprises in order to give a hand up and not a handout. In order for them to do this work, the Sisters themselves need to be supported. Our training program seeks to equip Sisters with essential entrepreneurial skill sets and to be recognized not just as public servants, but as social enterprise leaders.

Enterprise Training Initiative Description
Start Your Social Enterprise is an initiative by the African Diaspora Network that supports entrepreneurship training and mentorship for Catholic Sisters who are transforming their work from charity models to business models of development.
The goal is to support 15 Sisters with early-stage businesses to help their ventures and support their readiness to apply for Builders of Africa’s Future. All sisters who complete this program and meet the Builders of Africa’s Future program criteria will be eligible to apply for the upcoming BAF cycle. BAF2022 seeks to have three Sisters participate in the program.
In this practical and interactive program, participants meet monthly for virtual workshop sessions led by the African Management Institute. Thank you to Conrad N. Hilton Foundation for making this training possible.
