Theme

In alignment with the 2025 United Nations General Assembly theme, “Cooperatives Build a Better World,” this convening will explore how diaspora-led cooperative models—philanthropic, impact-oriented, and business-driven—can collectively address Africa’s most pressing development challenges.

Why Now?

For decades, remittances have served as a vital financial lifeline for African households. While impactful, they remain fragmented, short-term, and individually driven. This convening seeks to shift the narrative from remittance dependency to structured, collective diaspora investment, harnessing the power of cooperatives, pooled capital, and social innovation to create sustainable economic and social impact.

Building on insights from the 2025 African Diaspora Investment Symposium (ADIS25) and the launch of the African Diaspora Innovation Fund (AfDIF), this session will spotlight how diaspora communities can move beyond charity to co-create investment pipelines that drive entrepreneurship, employment, and inclusive development across Africa.

Why Attend?

– Explore cooperative giving models that allow diaspora members of all income levels to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s sustainable development.

– Learn how diaspora philanthropy builds human capital through investments in education, health, climate resilience, and youth empowerment.

– See the bigger picture – how philanthropy, business, and investment tools can create a virtuous cycle to build social infrastructure and scale opportunities across Africa’s youthful continent.

– Discover AfDIF in action as a replicable model for channeling diaspora capital into Africa’s innovation ecosystems.

– Catalyze new partnerships with diaspora leaders, African entrepreneurs, and global funders, joining forces for sustainable, collective impact.
