SYSE25 Graduation

The African Diaspora Network (ADN), in collaboration with its enterprise training partner, the African Management Institute (AMI) held a graduation for the Start Your Social Enterprise (SYSE) 2025 accelerator program.

Indeed, the future belongs to those who prepare for it. I am delighted that ADN has trained and supported you in engaging in activities that will help you diversify your organization's revenue generation and to work towards solving social and economic concerns facing the communities you serve. We will continue working alongside you in supporting you in order to serve the people you are called to serve.

Members of the ADN and AMI teams, Conrad Hilton Foundation, SYSE alumni, and program mentors gathered virtually to cheer on and to celebrate the significant achievements of 14 Catholic Sisters who successfully completed the 3-month long program. Since joining the program in February, the Sisters from across the continent including Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Uganda have participated in monthly training sessions to boost their business acumen and management skills, and to teach them effective strategies to formalize and sustain their social enterprises.

The celebration was filled with deep reflection, gratitude, laughter, and hope. Sr. Jane Wakahiu, LSOSF, Ph.D., Associate Vice President of Program Operations and Head of Catholic Sisters at the Conrad Hilton Foundation delivered an inspiring keynote that deliberately set the tone for the event. She encouraged the Sisters to apply what they have learned in their efforts to build healthy and sustainable enterprises and motivated them to pay it forward– “Think of how you can utilize the skills for the common good and transform your work and ministry and service delivery to benefit others. I ask you to pay it forward by implementing the skills you have acquired.”

Sr. Jane Wakahiu’s powerful words of wisdom and encouragement resonated deeply with so many of the Sisters who affirmed their intentions to apply all that they have learned and to enrich the lives of others by imparting the new knowledge they have acquired.

In Their Own Words

As the Sisters received their award certificates, they each shared powerful testimonials of the ways the program has enriched their lives–positively shaping their trajectories.

“I have learned so much that already I have put into practice knowing how to delegate others to do some work and then how to go about communicating effectively so that people will get inspired and even without begging them they will voluntarily they will just come and then you see them assisting without you even making much advertisement

I'm very grateful for this chance to go through this short course. I will use the skills I got from this program to improve the running of our spiritual center…it was like almost dying to some extent but through the knowledge that and skills I've got I've been advising my fellow colleagues on how to prepare and use the business model canvas, the flow of revenue, how to produce the value proposition, and marketing. We didn't know all about that. But at least now I have the skills. So within my congregation, I will try to transfer the knowledge to empower other social enterprises within our congregation at the same time to also empower the lay people we are working with and inspire them to at least to begin their own social enterprises to improve their own life. Thank you so much for the support.

In fact, the program was very very educational and enriching and learned a lot from the program especially on the issue of financial management and the customer channel and market size.

I'm very very grateful for the people who designed this program and all those that have participated in the implementation of this program. These skills will really help us to [make] this social enterprise sustainable. I'm happy to say to you that I have also asked for two hours from the junior ministries [who] are having the workshop the coming weekend. They have given me two hours so that I can share some of the skills that I've received from this program. Thank you very much
