As part of the African Diaspora Network’s (ADN) ongoing Impact and Innovation Forums 2024, the Forward Together: Afro-Futures of Giving event explored innovative strategies in Black philanthropy, focusing on the African diaspora’s role in driving sustainable development. Held in celebration of Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), the forum engaged thought leaders in discussions on digital philanthropy, collective giving models, and Afro-futurism as a framework for reimagining diaspora investments beyond remittances.
The forum also emphasized the importance of shifting narratives around African diaspora contributions, moving away from the concept of aid and towards strategic investments that foster long-term economic growth. Speakers highlighted success stories of collective giving initiatives already transforming communities across Africa, encouraging further collaboration and the development of innovative financial tools that can expand the impact of diaspora investments. “By utilizing digital platforms like PayPal or Venmo, we can make philanthropy more accessible and transparent, ensuring that every dollar sent creates meaningful impact,” said Kady Sylla, Director-Africa at Myriad USA.
